Our preservatives

Preservatives are not only required by Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009, also known as the EU Cosmetics Regulation, to guarantee the use of cosmetics is safe for human health, but are also crucial to ensuring the stability and shelf life of cosmetics. Whether serums, sprays, creams or the like, cosmetic products all contain water and usually also fat, which create the perfect conditions to make them good hosts for bacteria. Be they natural or synthetic – they all need preservatives.

Crucial helpers for safe cosmetics

Our preservatives for natural cosmetics

The growing interest in sustainability and more naturally oriented care routines means that natural cosmetics are becoming increasingly popular. Since a lot of commonly used preservatives are prohibited in certified natural cosmetics, natural cosmetics brands use monohydric alcohols to preserve their products. Yet these have the disadvantage that they can dry out skin and are therefore not suitable for all skin types.

An alternative to these are the dihydric alcohols, the so-called glycols.

Substances that are frequently used to improve the preservative effect are diols such as pentylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol or caprylyl glycol.

Another group is the glycerol monoesters. As with the diols, the short-chain esters in this group also have an antimicrobial effect.

Glyceryl caprylate, among others, has proven itself for preservation.
